Our Story

Born in the Deep South

We’re Liza, Layla and Eva, a mother-and-daughters team from the southern tip of Cape Town, where the ocean has always been part of our lives.

Long before Deep South Oceanwear was a brand, the sea was simply where we belonged. Beach days, tidal pools, kelp forests, snorkelling in cold Atlantic water and endless curiosity about what lives beneath the surface. It’s that love of the ocean, adventure and being outdoors that inspired us to create the Deep South Oceanwear brand.

Born from the ocean, made for exploring it.

Deep South Oceanwear brings together quality, practical and beautifully designed ocean gear for people who love getting in the water.

We started with the essentials we know and love: snorkelling masks, goggles and swim fins, carefully selected for comfort, fit and performance. We’re building the range with the same philosophy we bring to everything we do: products should work well, look great and make you want to get outside and use them.

Whether you’re exploring a Cape kelp forest, swimming at a tidal pool, heading away on an island adventure or simply spending the day at the beach, our goal is to make getting in the water easy, enjoyable and a little more colourful.

A family business with a story behind it

There’s a little family history too. Liza grew up watching her own mother turn creativity into a business, selling hand-painted tablecloths at weekend markets. From her, she learnt that with a good idea, a bit of courage and plenty of hard work, you can build something real.

That same spirit lives on in our Deep South Oceanear brand. Layla and Eva bring their own creativity, ideas and love of the ocean to the brand, adding a younger perspective and helping shape where we go next.

We’re proudly Cape Town born, inspired by the Atlantic and driven by a simple belief:
